Café Falstaff, Paris: A popular hangout close to Hemingway’s Paris apartment where he frequently dined with F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Harry’s Bar, Venice: Mr. Hemingway had his own table at this elegant eatery in Venice. The owner of this famous restaurant/bar recalls a time of drinking far too much trying to keep up with the writer! Harry’s Bar was mentioned a few times in “Over the River and into the Trees”.

Restaurante Sobrino de Botin, Madrid: According to Hemingway this was the “best restaurant in the world!”
Known for its roast suckling pig and fried potatoes, Botin has one of a kind cuisine and has been thriving since 1725.
Hemingway’s Island Grill, Florida: To get a taste of Hemingway’s favorites, check out the Island Grill for some of his classic meals and drinks.
Travels to:
Sun Valley, Idaho: Hemingway was a regular at the Sun Valley Lodge (Suite #206) between 1939 and 1959. Nicknamed the “Glamour House,” it’s rumored that Hemingway wrote “For Whom the Bell Tolls” in this room.
Hotel Ambos Mundos, Havana, Cuba: Competing with the Sun Valley Lodge, Hemingway also wrote a chapter of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” at this Cuban hotel. Located between his two favorite Cuban hangouts, El Floridita and La Bodegita del Medio, this hotel was easy to stumble home to. Pictures of Ernest are hung throughout the main entrance today.
Africa: During the summer of 1933, Hemingway and friends spent 3 months on safari in the Serengeti. Hunting, a pastime of Hemingway, served as inspiration for his novel “Green Hills of Africa” and with the love for a challenge, he claimed a lion as his prize.

Sloppy Joe’s Bar, Key West: Who knew Hemingway was such a party animal? This saloon style bar opened in December of 1933, just after Prohibition days. Built by friend, Joe Russell, Hemingway considered himself a “silent partner” in the business. He and his “Mob,” comprised of John Dos Pasos, Waldo Pierce, J.B. Sullivan, Hamilton Adams and Captain Eddie Saunders, drank many nights away in this joint.
El Floridita, Havana, Cuba: Esquire magazine named this bar and restaurant one of the seven best bars in the world in the 1940s. Its famous daiquiris were a favorite of Hemingway. Other celebrity visitors include Jane Fonda, Naomi Campbell, and Giorgio Armani.
La Bodegita del Medio, Havana, Cuba: With a Mojito in hand, Hemingway spent much of his time at this bar (translated as The Little Shop in the Middle).It’s a must see for Hemingway fans today.Hemingway signed the walls among other celebs such as Nat King Cole and Errol Flynn.

Fun Fact: Ernest Hemingway was quite the daredevil who enjoyed Running with the Bulls in Pamplona!
