It’s hard not to keep coming back to the simple pleasures of the beautiful beach life of Tybee Island. This charming five mile barrier island with three miles of sandy ocean frontage just off the coast of southeast Georgia is known for its untainted coastal habitat and unique coastal chic. Originally home to the Euchee Native Americans, its colorful past boasts bootleggers and pirates as well as more recent visits and habitation by a slew of glitterati.
No one would think this laid back relaxed island, a stone’s throw from historic Savannah, would see the likes of singer John Mellencamp, celebrity chef Paula Dean (more likely we suppose), and actress Sandra Bullock as home owners and star sightings of Oprah Winfrey, John Travolta, Ben Affleck, Miley Cyrus, to name a few. An unusual number of movies and television shows have been shot here and once you get there you’ll see why.
With its cooling breezes, warmth and whimsy, Tybee offers a wonderful respite from the heat and hubbub making it one of the most enticing, unlikely and unpretentious island resorts along the Atlantic Seaboard.
